the July 5th lunar eclipse
We close our prelude curation with MOON on the day of the penumbral lunar eclipse, a celestial phenomenon that leaves the Strawberry moon slightly darker than usual due to the imperfect alignment of the Sun, the Earth and the Moon which prevents the Sun’s light from directly reaching the Moon’s surface caused by the outer part of the Earth's shadow.
For thousands of years, humans have looked up to the sky to learn more about their future, their purpose and to give them a sense of time and order. The Sumerians were probably the first the develop a calendar based entirely on the recurrence of lunar phases. Each Sumero-Babylionian month began with the sighting of a new Moon.
There are obvious reasons why early man chose the path of the moon as a reference point. The female fertility cycle is closely related to the lunar cycle and combined with the observation of the moon light provide fantastic indicators of time passing.
